Time sure flies when you are having fun and singing, eh? Here we are finishing our traditional summer period with our guest night right around the corner. Have you invited any of your friends to come sing with us on September 15th? I’ve invited four women who all have fabulous singing voices. Two of them have already agreed to be there, and I’ll keep working on the others.
Thanks Ludmila for helping cover for me this summer while I was in Kansas City, and then vacationing with my family.  The chorus grew AND improved while I was away, so maybe I should take more time off, huh?
I continue to hear only good things about public performances the ensemble is doing around town. It is always a good sign to have more requests for performances than the group can accommodate. One of our goals needs to be to create additional
depth in each of our harmony sections to insure we are not overly dependent upon on relatively small groups of singers. Speaking of which, did I mention the September 15th Guest Night? Oh yeah, I guess I did.  Don’t forget we will be celebrating someone’s birthday with refreshments after our usual singing time, so tell your family you might be a little late getting home after our September 15th Guest Night.
Next on our hit parade, you ask? We are already brushing up on holiday music. And not too long after that, February 4th to be exact, we have our annual show scheduled at Jenkins
Auditorium with afternoon and evening performances. Featured will be new music on which we are now working along with some of our golden oldies. Continued diligence is required between now and our February 4th show to maximize the repertoire to full performance speed.  And don’t forget, shortly after the show, we will be in Jacksonville in a qualifying attempt for the 2012 Harmony Inc. Contest, to be set in our own backyard that fall. Can you imagine being less than an hour drive from the International Convention in Orlando as one of its society-wide qualifiers? That would be incredibly awesome, wouldn’t it? And don’t think that goal is too lofty. Remember only two tiny points stood between us qualifying for the 2011 contest!
So, anyway, did I mention our Guest night September 15th? While there is no bad time of the year to bring your friends to visit, that night would be an especially good opportunity.

Some very talented guests and members added recently, have served to enhance our chorus. And of course, thanks to each member for continually striving to Find Your Voice.
Looking forward to seeing you Thursday nights, I remind you to be safe and keep smiling.

                                             Tips for good vocal health:

- Drink plenty of water. Other fluids like coffee, tea and soda are not as effective at hydrating and lubricating the vocal folds.

- Try not to drink iced or very cold beverages just before you sing. Room temperature water is best.

- Try not to clear your throat when you have excess mucous. It is better to rinse and swallow.

- Avoid talking excessively in areas where there is a high level of ambient noise such as parties or in automobiles.

- Get plenty of rest, especially the two nights immediately preceding a big show, performance or contest appearance.
