                                             Not "what" but "who's"new!

I know I always say this but I can't believe how fast this year is going by. Here we are nearly halfway through the traditional summer period and our annual show is starting to loom on the horizon already.

Before I forget, let me thank those who were able to attend the 15th anniversary reception for the Community Foundation of South Lake County. The event was very well attended and our performance was appreciated. I received many excellent comments in the weeks following the performance. It was especially good to give something back to the organization which sponsors our rehearsal facility.

Since my last update, we have been blessed to have Jim Troeger working with Sisters to cover my vacation and work-related travel schedule. Jim is a talented and dedicated barbershop director and coach and his time with us has been a true joy. We are sad for ourselves that Jim's work is taking him away but we are happy for him and his family to be able to go back home. Fair winds and calm seas, my friend. The impact you made on us and our program far outweighs the time we have known you and you will surely be missed.

Next on our hit parade? Well, it is that time again. The music team has adopted a theme and affirmed the song list for our annual show which will be on October 16th at the Jenkins Auditorium. There are several new pieces which are progressing very nicely and will be performed for the first time on the show. Jim brought some needed discipline to our new music introduction routine and I think it is very cool that we converted what used to be a slack time of year into a period of learning and growth. Thank you to all the Sisters who have studied music and attended sectionals and chorus rehearsals this summer. You guys are the best!

As I always say, there is no bad time of the year to bring your friends to visit. We have had some very talented guests and our chorus is all the better for their participation. There is some real fun and excitement in the program these days so please make this a time to invite your friends and neighbors to come get a good dose of Sisters.

Be safe and Jim and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday nights.

                                             Tips for good vocal health:

- Drink plenty of water. Other fluids like coffee, tea and soda are not as effective at hydrating and lubricating the vocal folds.

- Try not to drink iced or very cold beverages just before you sing. Room temperature water is best.

- Try not to clear your throat when you have excess mucous. It is better to rinse and swallow.

- Avoid talking excessively in areas where there is a high level of ambient noise such as parties or in automobiles.

- Get plenty of rest, especially the two nights immediately preceding a big show, performance or contest appearance.
